About Carla:
With more than 23 years as an independent translator, I operate a freelance business from my home office, taking assignments from international organizations and governmental agencies, TV networks, private clients and translation companies.
During my first 10 years in the profession I lived in Brazil, where I had the opportunity to work in a great variety of fields. For the past 13 years, I have been working out of my home office in California.
I was born and lived most of my life in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where I obtained both a Master of Arts degree in French Literature and a Bachelor's degree in Romance Languages (French and Portuguese) from the prestigious Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).
I lived in France for a while. I traveled to Thailand, Indonesia, Malasia and Australia.
I taught French Literature and French language classes at UFRJ and at UERJ (Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro).
I worked for the French Consulate in Rio de Janeiro as a conference interpreter and translator for 10 years.
I speak Portuguese, French, and English fluently, and I have good knowledge of Spanish and Italian.
I am an Active member of the American Translators Association (ATA), Northern California Translators Association (NCTA), Sindicato Nacional dos Tradutores (SINTRA) and Associação Brasileira de Tradutores (ABRATES).
I am at this moment pursuing ATA certification in French to English and Portuguese to English translation.
About John:
I was born in Camden, New Jersey and grew up in Los Angeles, California. Over the years, I have lived in many different parts of the country.
I have extensive experience in the legal field, especially Civil and Criminal Law.
I am a teacher and writer. I write regularly on my blog, Truth Is All That Matters.
I speak regularly at my own public events all over the country since 1999 and twice a month I hold online meetings that attract people from all over the world. These events are produced and organized by the RiverGanga Foundation.
My first published book, Meeting Ramana Maharshi, Conversations with John Sherman, was released in 2004 by SilentHeart Press (ISBN 0-9718246-0-6) as en ebook.
My second book, Look At Yourself, was published in 2010 by SilentHeart Press as an ebook (ISBN: 978-0-9718246-6-9) and in paperback (ISBN: 978-0-9718246-7-6).
I am currently working on a third book, which will be released in the Spring of 2011.
I have always been an avid reader of philosophy, science fiction and I have a passion for the English language and etymology.
Our fields of specialization are Literature (fiction & non-fiction), Humanities, Performing Arts, Environment & Ecology.
We also offer certified English translations of diplomas, certificates, school transcripts, etc.
Over the years, we have learned that our diverse educational backgrounds and our work experience allows us to offer truly comprehensive, accurate and uniquely valuable service to our customers.
Languages are constantly evolving, and it is imperative to stay up to date. Some of the ways we have found to be effective in keeping up with ever-changing vocabulary and terminology are maintaining subscriptions to French and Brazilian specialized magazines, newspapers, and cable TV channels; lots of movies and books; constant contact with family and friends in Brazil and in France, and trips to both countries.
Our home office equipment includes two high-speed Pentium desktop computers and one laptop, all running Windows 7 Enterprise and all performing daily backups. We have a high-speed internet connection, an electronic fax number and a full featured scanner. We work with the latest versions of the most advanced software, including SDLX, Trados, Wordfast, and Adobe Acrobat. Our library has all the most important reference books and dictionaries in our areas of specialization.
